The new “Defeat Depression Campaign” is taking on Depression and Stigma in a big way!
On Sunday May 27th, 2012 we are holding a pan-Canadian Defeat Depression Day where Canadians are coming out to have fun at events to support mental health.
- Raise awareness, knowledge and acceptance of mental illness
- Provide resources and supports for individuals living with mental illness and their families
- Raise funds to support local mental health organizations
- Build a larger mental health network of communities
- Develop increased coordination between communities to defeat depression
- Create an environment that promotes early intervention and treatment
Open to Everyone!
The Defeat Depression team is thrilled with the overwhelming response to the first pan-Canadian Campaign, which has far exceeded our expectations. We have received many emails and contacts from a great number of individuals who are excited about the campaign and want to become involved in this very worthy cause.
We pride ourselves in being an organization that promotes collaboration and inclusiveness. Since many people live outside of centres where community events are being held, the Defeat Depression team would like to encourage these individuals to get their family, friends, neighbours, co-workers and other caring persons who want to make a difference, to get involved and hold their own walk, ride, run or other physical activity and help fight the stigma attached to mental illness. No matter if you live in a small town, rural area, northern community or big city, we ask that you join our campaign and help support our cause. By Moving for Mental Health, you will help raise awareness and reduce stigma on mental illness.
All funds raised by these activities will be used to support the activities of the Defeat Depression campaign, including developing campaign resources Canadians who are living with depression and other illnesses, with a special first year focus on schools, teens, students and youth.
Let’ all come together on May 27th and show how Mental Illness is a treatable illness and not to be hidden anymore. Together we all can make a difference!
Please join the campaign and obtain your donation sponsorship fundraising form and poster template to support your involvement in the campaign. Print out posters, promote the campaign, ask local businesses to promote the event and provide copies of the donation forms — and have fun while Moving for Mental Health!
Thank You and WELCOME to the Campaign!
