2/ No event in your community? “Hold-Your-Own” Event!

If you live outside of a centre where community events are being held, the Defeat Depression team would like to encourage you to get your family, friends, neighbours, co-workers and other caring persons who want to make a difference, to get involved and hold your own walk, ride, run or other physical activity and help fight the stigma attached to mental illness. No matter if you live in a small town, rural area, northern community or big city, we ask that you join our campaign and help support our cause. 3/ Mental Health Non-Profit Organizations

As we were developing the campaign one of the key components we wanted to attain was an ability to raise revenue to support the work of local organizations in tackling depression and stigma and providing support for persons affected by mental illness and their families. As such we wanted to build in a fair revenue share plan. You will find these details in the Defeat Depression Campaign Agreement. The agreement calls for 65% of the revenue being raised through your local efforts and those of the participants you recruit would go to your organization. Also, as the revenue share allots 10% to cover the local event costs, if these costs are through community sponsorships, this additional 10% (or unspent portion thereof), would also go towards the local share. Therefore the revenue share that would be dedicated to the local share is between 65% and 75%. The more people who get involved, the higher the revenue you receive.We have also created packages for the recruitment of sponsors, participants, steering committee members, recruiting community employers and companies, as well as bringing in other mental health non-profit organization to be involved. Through this campaign it is our hope that over the coming years this will serve as a strengthening of networks between organizations and will greatly help in bringing awareness to the public as well as providing knowledge and resources to address mental illness.In order to become a host, you would simply need to sign up as an event host. If other local mental health organizations joins the campaign, they would assist with the running of the event. Their organization would also recruit participants and would be provided with 65% of the revenue their participants would raise. 10% of the revenue raised by other organizations would also go towards event costs.The Defeat Depression national campaign would receive 25% of revenue raised. These funds would be assigned to develop further resources and supports (the first year we are targeting developing student resources) as well as managing and growing the campaign, ongoing support for event sites, promotional/ outreach/ website management, social media, administrative and technical support for the event sites. Funds would also be used to develop necessary resources and materials for the campaign and to provide anti-stigma resources.By joining the Defeat Depression campaign, your organization will help build awareness, raise funds to help your organization provide services and supports, while improving how communities and the general population view mental illness. If there are no events planned in your community, contact us and we will work together to establish an event. 4/ Community Employers and Companies

Your company can help provide local mental health organizations with the needed resources to assist persons with depression and other mood disorders and their families. By becoming actively involved in the campaign, you will be taking a positive stand against stigma, helping many people to feel comfortable in coming forward quicker for help.Opportunities to get involved include supporting the campaign directly, forming teams to participate in the community events, promoting the event, providing services, supplies, resources, or prizes, and by using the campaign materials to improve supporting employees who may be dealing with a mental health issue.Defeat Depression objectives are:
